Background & Course Information

Patient safety is tantamount to quality healthcare. Maintaining the safety of patients is a complex affair. Gone are the days of single physician care. In today’s modern medical practices, patients are faced with multiple disciplines in a variety of specialties for different ailments. This puts patient safety at higher risks, with each new interplay of providers. Simply put, the more entities involved, the higher the risk of potential errors through ineffective communication, poor handoffs, and high workloads. The list of possible errors and obstacles for patient safety are immense. It is the duty of health care providers to identify these risks and minimize their impacts. Excellent patient safety is synonymous with quality health care.

This module provides several case presentations with focus on possible patient safety issues and provides solutions on how to effectively provide quality health care along with maintaining rigorous patient safety management.
